|
Robin Williams earned his first Oscar nomination portraying nonconformist radio deejay Adrian Cronauer, brought in by the army to entertain troops on the radio in 1965 Vietnam. In this Barry Levinson film, based on the story of a real-life army deejay, Cronauer's irreverent, rapid-fire humor and top rock 'n' roll hits soon shake up the complacent military establishment. But as the lonely hearted entertainer witnesses the bitterness of the war up close, he begins to feel the gravity of the American presence there. This Special Edition DVD includes hilarious outtakes of Williams' "raw" improvisations and a Production Diary that examines the film's origins, its music, the shooting set in Thailand, and an overview of the film one year later.
