Ken Burns and Lynn Novick's three-part documentary on the "Noble Experiment" tells a fascinating story of idealism, folly, and unintended consequences. Included are stories of small-time whiskey-jobbers, big-time bootleggers, and brutal gangsters; flappers dancing the Charleston in speakeasies; and immigrant families stomping grapes in basements and making moonshine in their backyards. It also tells a darker tale about divisive single-issue lobbyists, fear-mongering and smear campaigns; and the perils of unfunded mandates whose lessons are as relevant today as they were nearly a century ago. Included in this three-disc presentation are more than two hours of bonus features.
