With watercolors and gold foil, you can re-create in miniature the type of gilded panel paintings made by Suzuki Kiitsu in 19th-century Japan. Along with four tubes of watercolor paint, a traditional Japanese brush, a wooden burnishing tool, and a pad of disposable paper palettes, this craft kit from the Metropolitan Museum of Art features two sheets of thin gold foil on a film backing and a specially prepared outline of morning glories, all presented in a colorful, laminated window-front box. After painting the flowers and leaves, lift away the remaining paper to reveal an adhesive backing on which to rub down the foil. The enclosed booklet contains a brief art history lesson and complete illustrated instructions, while the box becomes a shadowbox frame for hanging or displaying your finished piece.
