Taking your cue from Barbara Beiler's early 19th-century American sampler, you can create your own version of one of her Pennsylvania Dutch motifs. This needlework kit from the Metropolitan Museum of Art contains six skeins of embroidery floss—tan, purple, yellow, blue, red, and green—as well as a 4 x 6-inch piece of 9-count Aida cloth, a stitch chart, and a needle, all presented in a colorful, laminated window-front box. The enclosed booklet contains a brief art history lesson and complete illustrated instructions, while the box becomes a shadowbox frame for hanging or displaying your finished piece.
