Description
She may have been dubbed Queen of Rockabilly, but even that's too cramped a box in which to place the great Wanda Jackson, who brought down the house at her own 2009 inauguration into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This is glorious stuff, from the high-voltage rockers like "Mean, Mean Man," "I Gotta Know," "Riot in Cell Block Number Nine," "Honey Bop," "Let's Have a Party," and "Fujiyama Mama" to the heartbreak of "(Every Time They Play) Our Song," "Little Charm Bracelet," and "No Wedding Bells for Joe" to the self-penned gems like "Cool Love" and "Right or Wrong."

"Significantly, it was her friendship with Elvis Presley—she toured with the fledgling King throughout 1955 and 1956 and even dated him briefly—that pushed her from making country music to recording rock and roll and rockabilly. Jackson signed in 1956 with Capitol, where she'd stay for the next decade and a half. Her early singles for the company remain classics: furious, stylized rockabilly growlers that were as wild and outrageous—perhaps, even more so—as the work of peers like Charlie Feathers, Billy Lee Riley and Ronnie Self."—Memphis Commercial Appeal
