Much remains unknown about the too-short life of Jane Austen, while many of her admirers can't help but wonder about the romantic history of the creator of such intriguing lovers as Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy. In his account of Austen's life, Andrew Norman concludes that she and her sister Cassandra fell out over a young clergyman, with whom Jane shared a seaside romance in 1802. Norman, a retired doctor, also suggests that Austen suffered from tuberculosis, along with the Addison's disease that killed her. Austen scholar Diana Shervington, a vice president of the Jane Austen Society and a descendent of Jane's brother Edward, provides a foreword.
