Appearing alongside Fred MacMurray and Claudette Colbert, Marjorie Main earned an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Phoebe "Ma" Kettle, a hillbilly mother with 15 children, in the 1947 movie The Egg and I. Following that film's success, Main and costar Percy Kilbride (Frank "Pa" Kettle) went on to star in ten Ma and Pa Kettle movies, box office bonanzas that were reputed to have saved Universal Pictures from bankruptcy. This collection contains four in the series: Ma and Pa Kettle at the Fair (1952), Ma and Pa Kettle on Vacation (1953), Ma and Pa Kettle at Home (1954), and Ma and Pa Kettle at Waikiki (1955), after which Kilbride retired—and was later replaced by Parker Fennelly.
