A lawyer and banker by profession, Grenville Winthrop (1864–1943) was at heart a passionate art collector, and he bequeathed more than 4,000 works to Harvard's Fogg Art Museum. This catalog presents 219 of these outstanding and rarely loaned pieces—a selection of 19th-century paintings, drawings, and sculpture, including Vincent van Gogh's The Blue Cart, Dominique Ingres's Raphael and the Fornarina, and Dante Gabriel Rosetti's Blessed Damozel—sumptuously illustrated with 259 color plates and 181 black and white figures, with provenances and commentary from more than 60 experts.
