This collection begins with gravity- and physiognomy-defying artistry by Rudolf Nureyev and Veronica Tennant, (the Grand Pas de Deux from Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty) and ends with Jerome Robbins' Afternoon of a Faun, set to Debussy's music and starring Tanaquil LeClercq and Jacques d'Amboise—a performance so heartbreakingly beautiful we had to immediately watch it again. Other highlights include Le baiser de la fée ["The Fairy's Kiss"] pas de deux (with music by Stravinsky and soloists from the Moscow Classical Ballet) and the rhapsodic Anyuta Bids Farewell to Her Sweetheart with Ekaterina Maximova and Marat Daukayev (music by Valery Gavrilin and superb choreography by Vladimir Vasiliev).
