Epitomizing the postwar transition from the acoustic Delta country style to citified electric blues, the late Pinetop Perkins spent more than a decade with Muddy Waters as well as collaborating with other legends such as Sonny Boy Williamson, John Lee Hooker, and Howlin' Wolf. To celebrate the boogie-woogie piano king's 95th birthday (he died two years later), a bevy of blues stalwarts gathered for a wang dang doodle of superior dimensions. B.B. King joins his host for licks and repartee on "Down in Mississippi"; other classics include "Got My Mojo Working," "Hoochie Coochie Man," "Look on Yonder Wall," "Barefootin'," and "Sweet Home Chicago." "He shows off his rolling, upbeat boogie piano style, and still-gutsy vocals, on the self-written standard 'Take It Easy, Baby,' and there are more impressive vocals, and slower, delicate blues work on the final 'Bad Luck Baby'….. Clapton adds some impressively understated guitar on the best track, a medley of 'How Long Blues' and 'Come Back, Baby'."—The Guardian "Clapton turns in a hair-raising solo…. But it's former Thunderbird Jimmie Vaughan, with his restrained, eloquent string mastery, who best complements Perkins's piano work and singing."—Texas Monthly "Still amazingly spry on the ivories, Perkins' rollicking style brings new life to these blues standards. His singing voice is gruff but endearing as he playfully engages with his guests."—Boston Herald "Perkins won so many W.C. Handy Awards as the best blues pianist that in 2003 he was 'retired' from future consideration, and the award renamed in his honor."—Chicago Sun-Times
