As a radio disc jockey in Manchester, England, 20 years ago, Neil Cossar began collecting pop music trivia for his on-air broadcasts—artist birthdays, musical firsts and lasts, chart-topping albums and singles, and other significant happenings in music. Finally, in 1999, he launched his website ThisDayInMusic.com, which quickly became a popular resource for "trivia-lovers and fact-seeking DJs the world over" (Manchester Evening News). This book, based on the website, presents a page of musical anniversaries for every day of the year, describing who hit #1 on the charts, who got arrested, which record won an award, and which performances broke new ground or signaled a band's demise. Black and white photos appear on every page. Also included are monthly feature pages which detail some of the pivotal events in music history, such as the Beatles' opening gig at the Cavern Club, the Woodstock music festival, and the day Elvis died.
