Like many jazz fans around the world, we had an enormous admiration and respect for the late Dave Brubeck, both as a person and as a musician. He was a charming and straight-up guy, who wore his mantle of jazz icon lightly. Brubeck selected these 31 tracks himself, from 24 live and studio albums recorded between 1949 and 2002. Tunes range from the immortal originals "Take Five," "It's a Raggy Waltz," "Unsquare Dance," and "Blue Rondo ŕ la Turk" to jazz standards like "Perdido," "Indiana," "Caravan," "Stardust," and "Take the 'A' Train" to blues ("Audrey"), beautiful ballads ("In Your Own Sweet Way"), and Broadway ("Maria").
