Born in Manchester in 1968, British painter Chris Ofili is one of the most notable painters of his generation, winning the Turner Prize in 1998 and representing Great Britain in the Venice Biennale of 2005. His complex and highly decorative canvases, built up from layers of paint combined with other materials, often refer to his Nigerian heritage and the wider African American and Afro-Caribbean experience, with imagery from Zimbabwean cave paintings, blaxploitation movies, comic books, funk and hip-hop album covers, pornography, and the Bible. This catalog, from a 2010 exhibit at Tate Britain in London, surveys Ofili's career from the mid-1990s in 130 color reproductions, many filling one or two pages.
