This 1989 cautionary tale about overreliance on technology is a classic example of the Japanese sci-fi genre of mecha (stories about robots and machines). In a fictional Tokyo ravaged by a massive earthquake, giant robots known as labors have been created to rebuild the city, until a computer virus in their operating system sends them on destructive rampages. This lavish Collector's Edition, limited to 10,000 numbered sets, has been newly remastered, and features a new English translation and dubbing. Also included are a feature-length making-of documentary, a reproduction of Oshii's original storyboards, and a 184-page archival booklet with detailed animation drawings and interviews with the filmmakers.
