In a 2000 adaptation of Edith Wharton's House of Mirth, Gillian Anderson won Best Actress honors from Village Voice and at the British Independent Film Awards for her luminous portrayal of rising young New York socialite Lily Bart, who falls prey to an unscrupulous financial investor (Dan Aykroyd) and a ruthless friend (Laura Linney) who accuses Lily of adultery to save her own reputation.
