|
In October 1913, a group of aristocratic men and women gather for a shooting party at an estate in the heart of the English countryside, celebrating the elaborate rituals of a glittering world that was passing into history. The host and lord of the manor is played by James Mason, who earned a Best Actor award from the London Film Critics Circle in his final film. As an animal rights activist, John Gielgud won Supporting Actor honors from the LA and National Society of Film Critics. The 1985 film has been beautifully restored by its distinguished cinematographer Fred Tammes, preserving the film's painterly palette of muted browns, grays, and greens that comprise the English countryside.
