Recorded in 1960, this was jazz singer Etta Jones' first album for the independent jazz label Prestige. Jones was well into her second decade of performing when its elegant title tune went gold, hitting the pop Top 40 and reaching number five on the R&B charts. Jones also gave timeless readings of "If I Had You," "All the Way," "Something to Remember You By," "Where or When," "Bye, Bye, Blackbird," "On the Street Where You Live," "Fine and Mellow," "I Love Paris," and "Yes Sir, That's My Baby." "'Somewhere between Ella Fitzgerald and Dinah Washington,' was how bandleader Earl Hines described this singer … and yet, paradoxically, Etta Jones's style was unique. Because she chose to sing the same kind of subtle and demanding ballads that Sarah Vaughan did, her work has not dated.
