In a lidded box of pink and cream, rather like a jewelry box, this desk set offers writing papers and matching envelopes illuminated with the magnificent roses of Pierre Joseph Redouté, who was celebrated in both pre-revolutionary and Napoleonic France as a master illustrator and engraver of floral subjects. Lift the hinged top to reveal a fully decorated compartment containing 20 writing papers printed with a cream face, delicate chain border, and a petite rose emblem, as well as 20 printed pink envelopes with a rose on the flap. Lower the lip of the box to find a hidden drawer containing folded-paper notes with large roses on the front—5 each of 2 versions—and 10 additional pink envelopes.
