Starting with a bowl of plain, unalphabetted tomato soup on the kitchen table, each animal arrives with his own letter to contribute, from the ant and the butterfly on the first pages to the chipmunk and dogs on the second, the elephants and frog on the third, and so on. Not all of the animals arrive in person—the dogs appear as a new placemat border, while the elephants ring the rim of the bowl—but things get plenty confusing as more and more animals show up, and even the "decorative" ones start interacting. Gianna Marino illustrates the antics in finely detailed watercolor cartoons.
