Recorded live in February 2000 at the Théâtre Musical de Paris-Châtelet, English tenor Ian Bostridge sings a dramatic program of lieder by Schubert and Wolf, whose songs represent both the beginning and the end of the tradition. Among the Schubert songs are Wehmut, Der Zwerg, Nacht und Träume, Der Musensohn, An die Entfernte, Am Flusse, Willkommen und Abschied, Wanderers Nachtlied II, An die Leier Am See, Im Haine, and Erlkönig while the Wolf selections are Der Genesene an die Hoffnung, Der Knabe und das Immlein, Gebet, An den Schlaf, Neue Liebe, An die Geliebte, Begegnung, Nimmersatte Liebe, Peregrina I, Peregrina II, Storchenbotschaft, and Abschied. Among Bostridge's many distinctions are the Gramophone award for the best vocal recording in 1998 for Schumann's Dichterliebe cycle.
