In his staging of Lucia for the opera house in Genoa, director Graham Vick concentrated his attention on the performers, evoking the atmosphere of the opera's historic Scottish setting rather than constructing physical locations. The focus rests on the passionate and tragic engagement of Lucia, Edgardo, and Enrico as performed by an all-star cast. Hailed as "one of the hottest tenors on the international scene by Opera News, Argentinian Marcelo Álvarez has appeared in La Traviata at the Met and garnered superlatives for his performances in Rigoletto and Les contes d'Hoffmann at Covent Garden, and leading Lady Stefania Bonfadelli's performance in the Vienna Staatsopera's La Sonnambula (another bel canto role; another mad scene!) brought her the label "new prima donna" from Opera Notes.
