This exceptional set of live performances features Daniel Barenboim conducting the Ninth Symphony (2006) as well as leading and playing the two piano concertos (2007). The Juilliard Quartet was recorded in Bavaria, in 1976, and the Fidelio was captured at the Palau de les Arts "Reina Sofia," Valencia, Spain, in October 2006. "There's little question that if I'd attended this Fidelio, I'd have left the theater bedazzled. Waltraud Meier makes a thrilling, charismatic Leonore, singing with the coiled restraint of a woman near hysteria, and her feelings wash over the footlights….
