This groundbreaking catalog chronicles the overlooked sculptural medium of fired clay sculpture across four centuries in Italy, particularly in the context of the sculptural process, from such artists as Lorenzo Ghiberti, Donatello, Andrea del Verrocchio, Alessandro Algardi, Gian Lorenzo Bernini, and Antonio Canova. Following six essays, more than 80 objects are presented here in color and black and white photos, including drawings and sketch models, enameled terracottas, and marbles.
