(1963 Grammy Award Winner, Album of the Year) The fastest-selling record album in history, The First Family is a good-natured parody of President John F. Kennedy, both as Commander-in-Chief and as a member of a large, well-known political family. Kennedy himself gave copies of the record as Christmas gifts. Impressionist Vaughn Meader and a talented voice cast recorded the album before a live audience on October 22, 1962—coincidentally, the same day JFK announced the discovery of Soviet missiles in Cuba (the cast had heard the news, the audience hadn't) and in early 1963 they recorded the sequel, The First Family, Volume Two. Both are presented on audio CD in this 50th anniversary edition, with a third disc containing a BBC tribute to the recordings, Meader's first television appearance on Talent Scouts, and a clip of Kennedy talking about the album.
