The New-York Historical Society's drawing collection is one of the earliest assembled in the United States, comprising more than 8,000 works on paper and 75 rare sketchbooks. This beautifully illustrated and thoroughly documented catalog presents 200 highlights of the Society's vast holdings, from 16th-century avian watercolors and a 1650 Dutch view of New Amsterdam to the facade of St. Patrick's Cathedral, depicted in 2002 from inside Rockefeller Center by Richard Haas, and representations of the World Trade Center both before and after 9/11. Here too are works by Thomas Cole, Albert Bierstadt, John James Audubon, and members of the Hudson River School.
