Since 1985 the American Photography series of annuals has had a mission to showcase and preserve the best photography—editorial, journalistic, promotional, and personal—produced in the previous year. This 27th collection, for 2010, reproduces 313 color and black and white photos (up to 18 x 12 inches) from more than 8,000 submitted, including the work of photojournalists like Tim Hetherington, who was killed the following year while documenting the escalating violence in Libya, and Lynsey Addario, whose photos from Afghanistan and Sierra Leone focus on women's issues of self-immolation and maternal mortality. The book features die-cut thumb tabs, foil-edged pages, and a laminated cover with fashion images from Torkil Gudnason.
