Description
After Germany surrendered in May 1945, the Allies undertook the enormous task of denazification—removing all adherents of Nazism from every facet of public life and employment—as a necessary part of rebuilding the country. Little recognized in this effort were the German and Austrian refugees who had fled Nazism before the war and later fought for Britain. As the author of The King's Most Loyal Enemy Aliens and Freuds' War tells us here, these "enemy aliens" served by the thousands in their former homeland, and proved essential in hunting for war criminals, interrogating prisoners, and in re-educating their utterly debased former countrymen in the values of democracy and a free society.
