Description
The author of Woody Guthrie Artworks here reveals the artistic expressions of another iconic musician. Louis Armstrong typically spent more than 300 days a year on the road, bringing his music to audiences around the world and taking along a record player and two reel-to-reel tape recorders for his own entertainment. Satchmo recorded music and also everyday conversations with his wife, his band mates, and reporters and fans, and for each of these homemade reels he used scissors, pens, and yards of transparent tape to collage his own "album covers." Steven Brower collects some of the most expressive and intriguing examples of Armstrong's impromptu 7 x 7-inch artworks, reproduced in color in their original size.
