In 2004, Oliver Stone released his epic reinvention of one of the history's greatest military commanders and ruler of one of the ancient world's largest empires. A year later, Stone, believing that too much of the film had been left on the cutting room floor, released a longer "Director's Cut" of the film. Still not satisfied, he added 40 more minutes of previously unseen footage and recut the film in the traditional "road show" format, with a 3˝-hour running time and an intermission at the two-hour mark. Both fans and critics agree that Alexander Revisited: The Final Cut is the best of the three, with a more disciplined narrative structure and more graphic sex and violence (unrated!). Stone defends his vision in a brief video introduction.
