One of the original Curious George books by H.A. Rey and his wife Margret, this 1963 book for readers 4 to 6 teaches the alphabet as George himself learns it. The clever artwork turns the letters themselves, both uppercase and lowercase, into memorable figures; "L," for instance, becomes a lion named Lucky, while the lowercase "l" is a lean lady. Though credited at first to H.A. (Hans Augusto) Rey alone, all of the original seven Curious George books—as well as his first appearance, in 1939, in Cecily G. and the 9 Monkeys—were full collaborations between Rey (who did much of the illustrating) and his wife Margret (who did much of the writing).
