Left alone for the day, Curious George can't resist investigating the hutch full of rabbits in his neighbor's yard, in this 1958 book for readers up to 6. One little bunny escapes, though George cleverly employs the mother rabbit to find it. George then takes up fishing (and, unintentionally, swimming) and helps his neighbor retrieve a kite from a tree—and ends up dangling in high the sky. After the man in the yellow hat retrieves him (via helicopter), George is given a bunny of his own to care for. Though credited at first to H.A. (Hans Augusto) Rey alone, all of the original seven Curious George books—as well as his first appearance, in 1939, in Cecily G. and the 9 Monkeys—were full collaborations between Rey (who did much of the illustrating) and his wife Margret (who did much of the writing).
