|
|
This big-screen version of the popular 1960s TV series stars Mel Gibson as the card-playing, gunslinging title character, Jodie Foster as a wily gambler, and the original TV Maverick, James Garner, as a renowned marshal. The 1994 film finds Maverick on his way to a riverboat poker tournament promising a winner-take-all prize of $500,000. While attempting to win the $5,000 buy-in, he runs into Annabelle Bransford (Foster), another cardshark en route to the big tournament. Garner's Marshal Cooper does not play cards but comes along for the ride. Along the way they pass through some scenic western locations including Yosemite National Park, the Columbia River in Oregon, and the Arizona desert.
