As the sultry and scintillating soprano in the famed Manhattan Transfer vocal quartet, Cheryl Bentyne switches from doo-wop to ballads to vocalese with ease. On Let's Misbehave, the Grammy-winning singer adapts her voice to the many moods of what she calls the "witty, dark and eloquent" songbook of Mr. Cole Porter. "Begin the Beguine" is her spin on an a cappella version by Sammy Davis Jr., while the Bach-flavored introduction of "You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To" was inspired by the work of the Swingle Singers. Bentyne sings 12 more of the legendary composer's most memorable tunes, with the late, great saxophonist James Moody joining her on several. Among them are "My Heart Belongs to Daddy," "I Love Paris," "Night and Day," "Just One of Those Things," "Love for Sale," "What Is This Thing Called Love?" "All of You," "I Concentrate on You," "It's De-Lovely," and "Let's Misbehave." "Her voice is full of light, but that doesn't mean lightweight."—Billboard
