This ideal introduction to Mozart's instrumental genius includes a serenade ("A Little Night Music"), a popular piano concerto (No. 21, K. 467; "Elvira Madigan"), and a late symphony (No. 40). Géza Anda's performance of the concerto with the Camerata Academica dates from 1961 and is typical of the subtle playing that informed his traversal of all of Mozart's piano concertos. The other two recordings date from 1985 and 1995.
"This is much more than just an affordable beginner's package—not only because of the superb playing by the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra … but also for the classic reading of the Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major, 'Elvira Madigan,' K. 467, by the brilliant Géza Anda."—All Music Guide
