In this program, world-renowned flamenco master Juan Serrano gives a fascinating introduction to his genre's four classic song forms: siguiriya, soleá, tango, and fandango. In addition, he performs six brilliant concert solos using them. Serrano grew up in Cordoba, Spain, the birthplace of this richly emotive and dazzling music. By age nine, Serrano was studying under his father to learn the traditions of flamenco, a fusion of Jewish, Moorish, Christian, and Gypsy elements that emerged in medieval Andalusia. Among his many honors are the Medalla de Oro from the Spanish Academy of Fine Arts, the Catedra de Flamencologia from Jerez, Spain, and Serrano's Porto de Oro.
