Description
One wag called it a "gas, gas, gas" (in a good way). Coinciding with "50 and Counting"—the band's first tour together in five years—the documentary Crossfire Hurricane covers the history of these rock legends from their formation in the early 1960s through the arrival of guitarist Ronnie Wood in the mid-70s. The DVD version adds several bonus features to the doc, which originally aired on HBO and the BBC, including footage of the Stones performing in Germany in 1965, at two Poll Winners concerts of 1964 and 65, and on the UK's Arthur Haynes Show in 1964. "It is like looking through your old scrapbook," Mick Jagger commented after the premiere, "but it has a thrust and a narrative so it is not just a random assembly of old bits of material. So when you start off … you have got to have a dramatic sort of through line."

"It's not the first film to feature the band—Shine a Light; Ladies and Gentlemen, the Rolling Stones; and Sympathy for the Devil, to name but a few, pre-date it—but this one is perhaps the most candid. It features interviews with all the group's surviving members, past and present, as well as some amazing footage of them in the studio and on stage."—Daily Post, Liverpool
