It would be impossible to overstate Helmut Newton's influence on nude and fashion photography, notes Hugh Hefner in the introduction to this retrospective of Newton's work from the mid 1970s to 2002. A frequent contributor to Playboy, Newton was known for placing his models in surreal, cinematically posed shots, almost as if they inhabited their own world. Here are 160 color and black and white images, up to 17 x 11 inches, presented as photo essays, from a Lolita-esque travelog to Newton's take on Playmates in Los Angeles, from Nastassja Kinski playing out a fantasy with a doppelgänger doll to women in Prussian boots and spiked helmets.
