English artist Rodney Matthews has been inspired by Wonderland all of his life, and in pencil drawings and lush two-page paintings he renders a country where islands float in the sky, where the Palace of Hearts stands atop a dome of arched pathways, and where the March Hare's cottage sports a pair of long ears. When the original paintings for this book were exhibited at Chris Beetles Gallery in London, Monty Python alumnus John Cleese bought two of them on the spot.
